Common mistakes in repairing your bike with a wrench
Friends who like to repair or assemble bicycles by themselves, I hope you can read this article carefully to avoid some unnecessary mistakes in the process of repairing or assembling by yourself. Now more and more people are starting to repair their bicycles by themselves and have a certain understanding of basic wrench tools. However, many people still have some problems in the process of repairing, so Guan Xu would like to chat with you.
During repairs with the help of a wrench tool, be careful to overtighten the screws and do not overtighten the small screws. They don't actually require a lot of force. In some necessary situations, a torque wrench is very necessary. But now, more and more bicycles and accessories are made of carbon fiber material, and the use of torque wrench can solve this problem very quickly. Special attention should be paid to the selection, the torque range should not be too large, 5-10nm is enough. This range is usually the recommended torque range for seat tube clamps, stems and handlebars.
Before tightening the screws, be sure to add grease to the screws and the base (including both sides of the washers on the screws). Consider that loose parts can affect your bike handling and damage your accessories. So, understand how it works before tweaking.
So before tightening the headset, you need to loosen the screws that hold the stem to the tube on the fork. If you don't understand the working principle and then screw it hard, either the center of the top cover is cracked, or the hanging core in the upper tube of the front fork is damaged, or the expansion hanging core is pulled out. At this time, you need to use a torque wrench, which can save labor and time. Generally speaking, the torque here is between 6-8Nm. The specific operation is not limited by the free play between the bearings.
Repair of the wheel is also crucial, don't just adjust the wheel by tightening the spokes. Adjusting the yaw of the wheel is a good start, since the non-drive side and drive side spokes have different entry angles, a rotation of the non-drive side spokes will have about twice the effect of one rotation on the drive side. So when you adjust the deflection, don't just pull it tight, pay attention to adjusting the spokes on one side. If the spoke holes in the rim are slightly deformed, it means that the tension is too high, then make appropriate adjustments.
